And while it may not seem like it, this has a simple explanation, since the FAT32 format it will not support a file that is more than 5GB for more free space than you can have on your USB device.

This then means that files larger than 5GB are not portable, at least in these drives, but this may have a solution and we will explain it to you below. But in the meantime you can see the following tutorial which shows you how to create portable programs for installed applications in Windows.

The Windows operating system itself offers us practical solutions to this type of problem and what we will do is compress the file or split it into pieces. And to do that, we will do the following : we will create a folder in the RAR file. And in it we will insert a copy of the original file, this will make it divided into several parts.

But being in the same folder will keep them together and this folder can be moved to your USB device, no problem. We will do it like this, we look for the file that cannot be saved on the FAT32 drive. We select it with the mouse cursor and click to display a menu and in it you will choose the Add to option file.

The next step is to choose the RAR option in the file format, you will find an arrow next to Divide into volumes, bytes. Now you need to choose the CD700: 700mb option. This action will create a new file for each 700mbps drive. What we are doing with this procedure is simple, we are dividing your file into smaller fractions.

Then these will be merged, now the next step is to click on the OK option and you will place the folder which contains the separated files on the FAT32 drive. And voila, you already have the folder with your file on the drive which previously did not allow you to save it.

Now we will apply the same method but now using the ZIP file and we will follow steps very similar to the ones applied previously. To get started, select the file you can't save to the drive FAT32, then click on it and choose the Add to file option. The next thing you will do is click the OK button.

Now it will show you a new menu and in it you will make the necessary adjustments for the compression but here you just have to change the file format, where you will switch from RAR to ZIP. Everything else that appears in this window can be left unchanged without making any changes. The only difference is that the compressed file will appear in the same folder it is in the original.

The last step is to delete or remove the copy not compressed of fillet and the compressed file must be transferred to the FAT32 drive.

You will notice that the download will start smoothly and the download time will depend on the file size. And so we finish this article showing how to copy very large files to a Fat32 USB without formatting in Windows.
